2023 brings new challenges to healthcare but one constant remains, 64% of medical groups rank patient access and scheduling as their top patient priority. Health professionals understand the correlation between enabling strong patient activation and achieving better health outcomes. Backed by growing evidence, the CDC predicts when patients are activated and empowered by care team support, they become actively engaged in their healthcare and can achieve better health outcomes. That’s why Access Management professionals across the U.S. gathered in Orlando with industry peers, thought leaders, and health educators for the 2023 National Association of Healthcare Access Managers (NAHAM) Conference, furthering NAHAM’s mission to “establish best practices and subject matter expertise to promote high quality delivery of Patient Access Services”. SpinSci Technologies shares this commitment to accelerating patient access and was proud to join in-person and support NAHAM initiatives as an Executive Sponsor of the event.
The annual conference offered over 30 sessions focused on overcoming challenges and innovative ideas, with topics ranging from managing preferred technologies to handling staffing challenges. The event was also an opportunity to network with hundreds of healthcare professionals, and to share knowledge about the various challenges facing the industry. Leading health systems shared their stories of innovation to advance patient access for better patient engagement. Healthcare leaders from UPMC Health System, Advent Health, OhioHealth, Bayhealth, Baptist Health, Stanford Medicine, Children’s Health Dallas, UMass Memorial Healthcare, Atrium Health, and Trinity Health joined patient access advocates.
Patient Access for all
Patient Access challenges certainly require creativity and must often be viewed through an evolving lens. The pandemic has changed all the rules- both from a resource’s perspective and regarding patient experience and engagement. Access Centers have struggled to hire and retain talent, and it’s critical to introduce tools that can drive both their efficiency and experience. At the same time the delivery of care continues to evolve. Patients often interact with their providers through a variety of communication channels. This means health systems must be flexible in their engagement strategies. It’s not a sustainable strategy to engage patients through a singular approach, it’s time to now meet the patients where they want to be met, giving them more control over their healthcare. It’s also equally important to support them across the complete care continuum with an omnichannel approach, delivering a connected care experience.
