Ryan Marlar was homeschooled for high school and really enjoyed it as it allowed him to set his own pace. He met his wife when he was 16 and realized he needed to move back to his hometown to attend college. He attended Angelo State University in San Angelo, TX where he earned his Bachelors in Computer Science. Ryan joined the SpinSci team in November 2021 as a Patient Engage Product Owner.

When I was 16, I went bungee jumping in New Zealand.
Tell us one extraordinary thing that you have never done and would like to do?
One thing I would like to do is see the Northern Lights. I think it’d be really cool because it’s a natural wonder of the world, and I’m really fond of stargazing.
What are a few of your favorite hobbies and interests?
I like to read Sci-fi and fantasy books when I get the chance. I also enjoy spending time with my family – we like to grill on the weekends and visit the Dallas Arboretum. 🌷
What kind of music do you like?
I like pretty much any kind of music, but I particularly enjoy 90’s and 2000’s rock like Creed, Nickelback, and Foo Fighters. Some people like to make fun of me saying it sounds like divorce dad pop. I also like indie pop such as The Lumineers and Noah Kahan.
What cuisine do you enjoy the most?
Italian food is my absolute favorite – I like chicken parmesan, fettuccine alfredo, pretty much anything Italian.
Do you have any pets?
I have 2 pets. We have Trixie who’s a very energetic dog, and we also have a turtle who my parents gifted to my son. They found him in an alleyway and gave him to us in a solo cup – he now lives in our living room. 🐢🐕
If given a chance, who would you like to be for a day?
I’d like to be Elon Musk to see what it’s like to step into the mind of an innovator. I want to see how many ideas he has, and it’d be crazy to see what his brain is like from the inside.
Who has been your inspiration in life?
I have alot of people who inspire me like my dad. The biggest one would be my family friend who was our pastor. He is who my son is named after, and he also initiated our marriage. I have a lot of respect and admiration for his faith and care as a father.
What do you like about SpinSci?
The people that we hire and their attitudes. They’re always positive and willing to help people out – I think that’s the best part of SpinSci.
What do you think makes our team culture unique?
We put people first so from leadership down to those we interact with on the daily, they really care about the people around them and that we get to the same place together.
Something about yourself others don’t know?
I met my wife when I was 16 but in high school I lived in New Zealand for 2 years. It was an incredible opportunity to live there – I lived a couple minutes from the beach. New Zealand is the extreme sports capital, so I’ve been bungee jumping, zorbing, and surfing. I got to do a lot of cool things, and I don’t think I’d be the person I am today because the experiences I had there were life changing.
What are your dreams and your aspirations in Life?
My biggest aspiration is to see my children grow into happy, fulfilled, and successful adults. Their happiness and wellbeing are my top priority. Seeing them achieve their goals and grow up to become successful adults would be my aspiration for myself.
If you had to eat one meal, every day for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Absolutely pizza – there are so many different varieties of pizza. My favorite is anything with an interesting sauce like alfredo or BBQ. 🍕
What is your favorite movie?
I like the movie Kingdom of Heaven – it’s a movie about the Crusades. Orlando Bloom is the main character, and it showcases themes of honor, courage, and redemption.
Where’s a place you’d like to visit?
I’d love to visit Rome, Italy to see the Roman Collesium. I haven’t done a ton of traveling so I think it’d be a great trip to get to know the culture and enjoy the food.
What is one thing about SpinSci you wish the whole world could know?
Working for Rajit is like working with a real life Michael Scott from the Office. He brings leadership, humor, creativity, and comradery.
